A Room That Changes How You Live

Seen from above, a P-Shape conservatory does exactly what its name suggests: a long lean-to section forms the stem, and a rounded Victorian bay forms the bowl of the 'P'. The result is genuinely two rooms in one — most of our customers use the long wing as a dining room or playroom and the curved bay as a lounge looking down the garden. It's a design for larger, usually detached homes where a single-shape conservatory would feel lost against the elevation, and it's the closest a conservatory gets to living like a full extension — at a fraction of the cost. We build them from our Martlesham base for homes across Kesgrave, Ipswich, Woodbridge and Felixstowe.

Every conservatory we build pairs the Ultraframe roof — the UK's market-leading conservatory roof system, individually engineered to your postcode's wind and snow loads and supplied through Emplas — with energy-efficient Profile 22 uPVC frames fitted with A-rated glazed units as standard. You choose a performance glass or polycarbonate roof (compared below), your frame colour, and finishing touches from integrated roof vents to French, patio or bifold doors. Prefer a different shape? We also build T-Shape and L-Shape conservatories, and we'll happily talk you through all three at your design visit. It's all designed, built and finished by our own team from our Martlesham base, in gardens across Kesgrave, Ipswich, Woodbridge, Felixstowe and throughout Suffolk and Essex.

Every project starts with a free, no-obligation design visit and quotation, and is protected by our 10-year guarantee.

Choose Your Roof

The single biggest decision on any conservatory is the roof glazing. Both options below sit on the same Ultraframe structure — the difference is comfort, quietness and budget. Our consultants will price both for you so you can compare properly.

Our Recommended Option

Ultraframe Performance Glass Roof

Self-cleaning Conservaglass units that work all year round: solar-control coatings bounce summer heat away while low-E layers hold your warmth in winter. Rain sounds like rain — not a drum solo — and the sky view is crystal clear. The choice for a true all-seasons room.

GlazingSelf-cleaning Conservaglass, 24–35mm units

UV protectionUp to 94% (protects furnishings)

VentilationBuilt-in trickle ventilation as standard
TintsBlue, neutral, aqua, bronze & clear options
In plain English: cooler in July, warmer in January, quieter in the rain — a room you'll genuinely use all twelve months of the year.
Our Budget-Friendly Option

Ultraframe Polycarbonate Roof

Modern multiwall polycarbonate is a world away from the thin, noisy sheets of the 1990s — its layered air chambers insulate surprisingly well, it's lightweight, tough, and it trims a meaningful amount off the project cost. A sound choice for sheltered spots and sensible budgets.

GlazingMultiwall polycarbonate, 25–35mm
Finish optionsClear, opal & heat-reflecting tints
WeightLightweight — gentle on the structure

VentilationBuilt-in trickle ventilation as standard
BudgetThe most cost-effective roof option
In plain English: the sensible-money option — bright, tough and significantly cheaper, though warmer and noisier than glass in extremes.

Lead Times

Survey to Installation: 10–12 Weeks on Average

Because every conservatory is completely made-to-measure and the Ultraframe roof is individually engineered for your postcode, our standard timeline from final survey to the start of installation averages 10 to 12 weeks. Once manufactured, the base, build and finishing are typically completed within 2 to 3 weeks by our expert fitters.

Please note: This is an estimated indication. If you require your conservatory sooner, please discuss this with us during your survey—we will always try to accommodate if possible. Likewise, timelines can occasionally be extended for highly bespoke designs or specialised finishes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a P-Shape conservatory and is it right for my home?
A P-Shape conservatory combines two classic styles in one structure: a long lean-to section (the stem of the 'P') joined to a rounded Victorian-style bay (the bowl). This naturally creates two distinct zones — typically a dining area or playroom in the straight wing and a lounge in the bay — making it one of the most versatile and sociable conservatory designs. It needs a reasonably wide rear elevation and suits larger, usually detached properties best. If your home is smaller or you want a simpler footprint, our Victorian, Gable and Lean-To conservatories may suit better, and if you want twin wings around a central projection, look at our T-Shape — we build them all and will advise honestly at your free design visit.
Should I choose a glass or polycarbonate roof?
We offer both, and the honest answer is that performance glass is worth it for most people. Our glass roofs use self-cleaning Conservaglass, with performance options rejecting up to 81 per cent of solar heat and blocking up to 94 per cent of UV, which keeps the room cooler in July and warmer in January, and it is much quieter in rain. A polycarbonate roof is lighter and more budget-friendly, and modern multiwall polycarbonate insulates far better than the old single-skin sheets — it remains a sensible choice for a sunny, sheltered spot or a tighter budget. We will price both options for you so you can compare, with no pressure either way.
How long does a conservatory take from order?
Our current lead time from final survey to the start of installation is 10 to 12 weeks. Every conservatory is made to measure and the Ultraframe roof is individually engineered for your exact postcode's wind and snow loads, so after your survey we confirm the design and measurements, place the order, and book your build. On site, the base, build and finishing typically take two to three weeks depending on size and groundworks.
Do I need planning permission for a p-shape conservatory in Suffolk?
Usually not. Most conservatories fall under Permitted Development, provided they are single storey, stay within the height and projection limits (broadly, no taller than four metres and not extending beyond the rear wall by more than three metres on an attached house or four metres on a detached house), and don't cover more than half the garden. Listed buildings and conservation areas are different, and Building Regulations approval is not normally needed if the conservatory is under 30 square metres, thermally separated from the house by external-quality doors and has its own heating controls. Our surveyor deals with this every week and will advise you on your specific property during your free design visit.
Will my conservatory be too hot in summer and too cold in winter?
Not if it's specified properly — this is where modern systems have transformed conservatories. The Ultraframe roof includes built-in trickle ventilation as standard to keep air moving, our performance glass options reject up to 81 per cent of solar heat, and the Profile 22 frames are fitted with energy-efficient A-rated glazed units as standard to hold warmth in winter. Add-ons like roof vents, an insulated internal pelmet and integrated blinds can fine-tune comfort further, and we'll design the specification around how you plan to use the room.
What areas do you build p-shape conservatories in?
We are based in Martlesham and build across all surrounding areas including Kesgrave, Ipswich, Woodbridge, Felixstowe, Martlesham Heath, Rushmere St Andrew, and throughout Suffolk and Essex. If you are unsure whether we cover your area, call 01473 614 444.
Are your conservatories guaranteed?
Yes. Every conservatory comes with our comprehensive 10-year installation guarantee covering the frames, roof and workmanship. The windows and doors within your conservatory are certified by us as a FENSA-registered installer, and the Ultraframe roof itself is individually engineered to your postcode and wind-tested to 130mph, so it is built to shrug off the worst Suffolk weather for decades.

What Our Conservatory Customers Say

Reviews related to our conservatories

Sue & Alan T. • Kesgrave★★★★★

Our conservatory has become the room we live in. The performance glass really works — we had breakfast in there on Boxing Day and it was lovely and warm.

Graham B. • Woodbridge★★★★★

From the design visit to the final clean-up the team were superb. The build matched our brickwork beautifully and finished right on the timeline they quoted.

Lisa M. • Ipswich★★★★★

No pressure at all, honest advice on glass versus polycarbonate, and they even suggested a cheaper option than the one we'd asked about. Refreshing.

Peter & Jan C. • Felixstowe★★★★★

Cannot recommend Homestyle enough. Our garden room has stood up to two coastal winters without a creak, and it still looks brand new.
